Patrick Lawrence spent nearly three decades abroad as a correspondent and columnist, almost all of these years in the non-West. He wrote chiefly for the Far Eastern Economic Review, the International Herald Tribune, and the New Yorker. Somebody Else’s Century: East and West in a Post-Western World (Pantheon, 2010) is a summary of his reflections on his years overseas. He now writes foreign affairs commentary for Salon and the Nation. His most recent book is Time No Longer: Americans After the American Century (Yale, 2013).
